Anna Kopecká in conversation with animator Bára Anna Stejskalová and screenwriter Jan Smutný.
Bára Anna Stejskalová is a director, production designer, and screenwriter of animated films, specialising in puppet animation. She began her studies in animation at the Arts University Bournemouth in the United Kingdom and completed them with a Master’s degree at FAMU. Her bachelor’s film Fishermen (2017) was shortlisted for a BAFTA Award. She is a co-creator of the HEARDT project, which received an official grant from the Burning Man festival in the USA. Her graduation film We Are Closer to Death Than You Think (2020) toured international festivals and won audience awards at its first two screenings.
Jan Smutný studied screenwriting and dramaturgy at FAMU in Prague. He is a co-screenwriter of the successful short film Furiant, which was screened at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. He currently works as a screenwriter and dramaturg on several television series and feature film projects. He collaborated with director Dužan Duong and Lukáš Kokeš on the feature film Summer School, 2001, which offers an authentic insight into the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic.
