This panel discussion explores the role of music and sound design in film through a moderated dialogue between two prominent film composers, Jakub Kudláč and Jonatán Pastirčák, both recipients of the Czech Lion Award for Best Film Score.
Jakub Kudláč (*1978, Bratislava) is an experienced composer of stage and film music, awarded the Czech Lion for his score to Shadow Country. He studied composition at the Bratislava Conservatory and philosophy at Charles University, earning a doctorate from FAMU, where he currently teaches. He has composed music for numerous acclaimed films, including Golden Sting, The Blue Tiger, Božena, and The Last Race.
Jonatán Pastirčák is a Slovak musician and producer, known in the music industry as Pjoni and in the club scene as Isama Zing. He studied cello performance and music production in London and is a notable figure in Slovakia’s alternative electronic scene. He has collaborated on several audiovisual projects exhibited internationally, including in New York. He received the Dosky Award and the Tatra Banka Award (2018) for his music for the play Antigone. He won the Czech Lion for his score to Arvéd (2022) and was nominated for the same award for Nightsiren (2022) and Sensitive Man (2023).
