Director: Joel Blackledge
Post-cinema has been framed by Francesco Casetti (2015) as both the persistence and transformation of cinema as an idea, through various technological and cultural contexts. This video explores those twin processes with the metaphor of the "mirror routine", assembled in a supercut that both links cinematic “essence” to online media and points to the affordances of videographic methods in post-cinema research.
Joel Blackledge is an AHRC-funded doctoral researcher at Birmingham City University. His research uses video practice to explore the formal and thematic links between cinema and internet memes. His work has appeared in [in]Transition, Vittles, the International Journal of Creative Multimedia, and been shortlisted for a BAFTSS Practice Research Award.
