Saturday 11:30
The Chopin House
2024, 5 min., English
Director: Johannes Binotto
What does it mean to swallow? I devour the outside, make it part of my body. Yet, at the same time I'm opening myself to what is not mine. The body becomes an open vessel, a channel, a medium. Foreign signals run through my throat. Film history is eating me up. This may be hard to stomach.
Johannes Binotto is professor in cultural and media studies, experimental filmmaker and video essayist. He teaches film and media theory at the Lucerne School of Art and Design and comparative literature and culture at the University of Zurich. His research and experimental film practice focuses on the intersections of embodiment, philosophy, and media theory. He is currently co-leading together with Kevin B. Lee and Evelyn Kreutzer a SNSF-funded project on video essays in academic research and teaching.
