Saturday 10:00
Municipal Theatre of Marienbad
2025, 9 min, DCP, Czech with English subtitles
Directed by: David Šourek, Jáchym Štulíř
If the tale of the great beet had a horror and crazy pop culture version, it would probably be this one. A giant beet grows on the edge of town, its leaves blotting out the sun and its roots sucking out the water supply. The only one who can stop the destruction is a retired crane operator. But will he be enough to take on the beets? For the gnarled vegetable has more than one trump card in its stalk! Save yourself, whoever you can!
David Šourek (*1999) is a graduate of SPŠST Panská in AV technology. He worked as a projectionist in the Aero cinema and as a private cameraman. He is currently a student of the Master's degree at the Centre of Audiovisual Studies at FAMU. In his practice he is increasingly focusing on analogue video, digital post-production and film raw material. During his studies he has made three short experimental films. In his freelance work he accompanies bands and music events with VJing, combining digital techniques with the effects loop of analogue video.
Jáchym Štulíř graduated in Animation from UMPRUM in Prague. In 2022 he participated in the series Wunderbaum, where he animated the episode "Václav" (E06). His other directing credits include the short films Kupé (2022) and Eternia (2021).
